FAQ

What kind of co-op is FFHSC?
Firm Foundation Homeschool Co-op provides educational enrichment, support and encouragement for homeschooling families in a Christian environment.

Who teaches the classes at FFHSC?
Most parents who are members of the co-op have taught a class.  Some parents will volunteer to teach a specific class because their children need to cover this subject and think it will be more fun for them to share it with a group. Others teach certain topics just because they enjoy teaching them.  We tell parents who are unsure about teaching to really think about what they love to do or learn about.  If you like music, teach it!  If you enjoy biology, chances are that another parent just like you will be happy to assist you.  Remember, the commitment is only about ten classes each semester.  If you are not teaching, you must help out during the day by being a teacher's helper.

Don't be surprised if another parent in the co-op hears that you have a particular talent and asks if you would consider teaching that subject. It's how we are able to offer such a wonderful variety of classes!

What is a homeschool co-op?
A homeschool co-op, or cooperative, is a group in which every member family participates to provide classes for the students.  There are many different types of co-ops- social, academic, ones devoted to sports, field trips, etc.  Look for a co-op that fits the needs of your family before making the commitment to join one.

At FFHSC we encourage the entire family to participate, including fathers and grandparents! The most important aspect of a co-op is that everyone does something.  Some parents teach, some set up and clean up, some are teacher helpers, etc. Each person contributes to make the class day a success!

What are the benefits of being a part of a co-op?
We believe the benefits are numerous to being a part of a local co-op!  Here are a few:
  • your children get to participate in large group activities such as classes, field trips, park days, etc.
  • your children get regular social interaction with large groups of kids and adults of ALL ages.
  • homeschooling parents get the important support, encouragement and friendships they need!  And at FFHSC we offer an OASIS room each meeting to bless you!
  • Being part of a large group has it's benefits such as discounts on field trips, keeping in the "knowledge loop" as far as homeschooling information and news goes, giving your child an opportunity to experience different types of classes and activities they may not otherwise get at home.
